The other musicians who played on "The Coming of the Trickster God" are the current touring line-up of Bird People, consisting of Phil Schmiedlechner, who already played with Uli in prog-jamband The Lebanon Blues, and Andi Leitner. Often, the quest for a safe haven, a Shangri-La is at the center of the songs's stories, be it the little log cabin deep in the woods in "Manzanita Post" or the too-good-to-be-true tropical paradise of "Island in the Sun". On another level, most of the songs on the album deal with a certain sense of longing. They tell of mythical road trips to Sioux Falls, dancing bears in the redwood forests of Northern California, and shady hoodoo practitioners deep in the swamps of Louisiana. The album title, as well as the band's name were inspired by Navajo mythology and a certain Southwestern feeling permeates the whole album, although the songs' narratives stray to some other parts of America as well. The overdub-heavy production lends the album a layered, dreamy, gently psychedelic feel. Acererak made the enslaved Omuans carve out a tomb for their fallen gods, in which he sealed all of the workers. The Fall of Omu Īround the 14 th century DR, Acererak the demilich came to Omu and, upon seeing the deadly trials created by the Omuans, Acererak killed all nine gods and entombed them in the Tomb of the Nine Gods. ![]() On festival days, priests would partake in dangerous tests in the shrines of the nine gods as entertainment and sacrifices to the gods. The nine trickster gods saved the city of Omu from instant ruin and the Omuans built shrines to worship each god. Once Ubtao left the Chultan people to their own fate, nine spirits arose from the jungles as powerful animals. Mecury (Greek origin) was the God of commerce, financial gain, luck, messengers, travel, borders, and trickery. Maximón (Mayan origin) was the God of trickery in Mayan mythology. Unkh was the only exception to having an opposite spirit as he was the embodiment of true neutral. Loki is a trickster god, renowned for being neither totally good nor fully bad because his main goal was always to cause chaos. While Wongo was very violent and unstable, Moa was calm and honest. Each trickster god had a different personality according to its nature. ![]()
