![]() In the many ways this remaster let me down, the way it treated its audio was the most difficult issue for me. The music and voice lines should be shining and gleaming as loudly and clearly as possible. That is such a massive shame because the audio is a huge part of what gives the Persona series its unbeatable cool factor. So I reset the game and then Googled to see if I could figure out what the issue was. ![]() ![]() The moment the first words were uttered, I had a moment where I reeled back and thought something was wrong with my TV. I’m not sure how a remaster on my PS5 is able to have worse audio quality on my nice television than the small dated speakers of the PSP. The sound effects and voiceovers are highly compressed, which doesn’t seem to make much sense to me. The first thing I noticed is how every sound in the game sounds like it is being played through a speaker at the bottom of a bucket filled with water. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said for Persona 3 Portable on the Playstation 4. While the graphics and gameplay weren’t revolutionary by any stretch, it looked leagues better than the original PSP release and it was properly upscaled to fit modern standards of what a remaster from handheld should look and play like. Although you could feel the age of it and its limitations due to its source material, it still felt like a proper remaster. Just recently, I reviewed another PSP port that was brought to modern consoles in Crisis Core Final: Fantasy VII. They remastered the PSP release… what happened? ![]() This isn’t a remaster of Persona 3 FES, commonly referred to as THE way to experience Persona 3. It didn’t totally hit me until I was booting up the game. I finally decided it was time to start Persona 3. But I quickly got over that when the presentation of the game made me forget any of those issues I had at all. Meanwhile, the XBOX SERIES X had a proper next generation port. I was a little bummed out that it wasn’t a PS5 port and it was only made for last generation Sony hardware. I immediately jumped at Persona 4 because it had been the one I’ve been chomping at the bit to play. I never got the chance to play Persona 3 or 4 growing up, so I was giddy with excitement when I realized I’d finally get to play both of these classic games. If you read my Persona 4 Golden remaster review, then you’d know that I am a big time Persona guy and that I have been enjoying my time immensely with the remaster. Overall though Persona 3 Portable is worth it for the female route that sadly won't be in the remake coming next year, and with this on-game pass this is hard not to recommend to try.I am a big Persona fan. The main dungeon is very podcast time or audiobook time (at least it was worth it due to the music not getting too boring). And then there was the elephant in the room the main dungeon in the game was such a slog that around 100+ hours of gameplay it just got tiring, and every time I went into it I had to groan by just how much time I was in there for. Especially with sliders (which the new releases of this and P4G had) made it so that this game if known right then it could be very easy. In this version, we were given the choice to control the party members so this game is not very balanced to that (because FES had uncontrollable members). The only con I give this game is combat can be easy (and even Tartuas is a slog). The other thing to praise is the story, even though this is all in a vn form (due to this being originally for PSP) this is one of the better stories out of the 3 modern personas. With this game, though both characters have their own soundtrack, and all of it is worth listening to because persona soundtracks are addicting to listen to. I have seen the male side to this game but I will probably not play that side myself due to Reload coming out next year so a lot of my views are playing from the female route (which is one of the reasons to play this version).įirst off I want to address the music which is always A+ for these games. ![]() I was happy that they did pick this version mainly due to being able to play the female protagonist. When Atlus announced this last year to bring back Persona 3 to the modern generation. ![]()
